Culinary favourites: Five restaurants to try this summer!

Patio season is finally upon us, and we couldn’t be happier. Could we tempt you with an al fresco lunch between two shopping sessions, or after-work cocktails with friends? To help you decide where to go on your next culinary outing, we visited five restaurants at Les Promenades Gatineau to sample their favourite dishes of the season. Timid taste buds beware!

Shaker

Recognized for its range of cocktails, tartares and gourmet burgers, Shaker offers a culinary experience worthy of Montreal’s finest restaurants. The chef recommends the Asian Beef Tartare, a perfect mix of cashews, shiitake mushrooms, sesame oil and lemongrass. Yes, ma’am! If you’re looking for a vegetarian option, try the Beet and Melted Goat Cheese Carpaccio… nothing short of heaven in your mouth! Add to the exotic flavour by pairing your meal with a cocktail from a Quebec micro-distillery. Some friendly advice: order the Made with Love. It’s simply delicious!

This restaurant/bar with an industrial-chic ambiance is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. (that’s right: 3 a.m.!). It’s the perfect location for a romantic dinner with that special someone, or a late-night outing with friends

Cacao 70

If you’re a chocolate lover, look no further. We’ve found your Eldorado! Whether it’s for a Black Sesame or Mexicocoa hot chocolate, a fruit smoothie or a Mocha milkshake, it’s always a good time to visit Cacao 70. Have a midafternoon craving for something sweet or searching for a generous serving of dessert? Try the Bring-It-All-On Sharing Plate for Two… or More! Triple chocolate pizza, fresh fruit, a banana split waffle, graham cracker, brownie bites, chocolate-covered ice cream and two Americocoa drinks. You were looking for chocolate? There you have it!

Open late on weekends (until 11 p.m.), Cacao 70 is more than capable of providing your daily dose of sweetness. After all, any time is a good time for chocolate.

La Belle et La Bœuf

Craving a cocktail or a gourmet hamburger in a restaurant with a rustic industrial décor? Look no further than La Belle et La Bœuf! Choose from more than twenty burgers prepared with AAA Angus beef, including the famous Calimero: spicy mayo, fried onions, smoked Gouda, bacon and a fried egg. Yum! Looking for a healthier option? Order the Salmon Poke Bowl instead. Simply incredible!

If you’re like us, you believe that a nice meal should be accompanied by a refreshing cocktail served in a mason jar. Jackpot! Choose from almost a hundred different cocktails prepared by skilled mixologists. They’re all pretty tasty, but we normally order La Boîte à gogo or Le Poison.

Open for lunch (lunch boxes start at $9.95) and open late (until 2 a.m.), La Belle et La Bœuf is the perfect place to spend an evening.

Whether it’s for the weekly lunch specials, the tasty pasta or the delicious mussels, there’s always a good reason to experience L’Académie. Looking for a chic but affordable spot for a business lunch? The new chef has put together a wide-ranging menu of tasty and quick dishes that are sure to satisfy. Looking for a bedtime snack? We’ve got you covered! The entire menu is 15% off after 8 p.m., Sunday through Thursday.

Providing an elegant but friendly atmosphere, the restaurant opens seven days a week at 11 a.m. L’Académie is the perfect place for a gourmet lunch or a romantic dinner for two.

Allô! Mon Coco

Having recently reopened at Les Promenades Gatineau, Allô! Mon Coco specializes in serving “modernized breakfast”. Keeping the traditional spirit of the family brunch at the heart of its recipe, the restaurant provides a modern and connected environment, along with a fresh and diverse menu. Whether you choose the Crab Cakes Benedict, the Portobello Omelette or a tasty serving of Apple & Cheddar Pancakes, the offerings are sure to please young and old alike. To add a little flavour to your breakfast—after all, it’s the most important meal of the day—why not treat yourself to a milkshake, an alcoholic coffee drink or a mimosa?
